On 1st January 2023 at 5pm, members of the Alton and Petersfield District rang simultaneous quarter peals of Single Oxford Bob Triples at 2 towers. This was an idea that started at the Holybourne monthly practice and after a little bit of practice and some homework by the band, I am pleased to say that Alton, St Lawrence and Petersfield, St Peter’s bells rang out at 5pm simultaneously ringing quarters of the same method. I am not sure if this has been done before.
It has been touch and go with sickness and Covid taking out two of our ringers. Luckily we managed to find substitutes and 2 slightly nervous bands met at the towers.
Some good striking took place and both quarters were successful. First quarters in the method for 10 members of the band. First as conductor in this method for both conductors.
I would like to take the chance to thank all the ringers who took part. Studying the method so we were able to attempt this. Attending practices at Holybourne and St Lawrence.
It was a first in method for most of the ringers and first as conductors in this method for both of the conductors.
Special thanks to Mike Rose and Andy Ingram for conducting these quarters. Special thanks to Andy as he was a late substitute and only had 48 hours to learn the composition and make sure he knew the method.
This is a great start for Alton and Petersfield Districts 2023 ringing. Amazing team work, lovely ringing and a fantastic sense of achievement.
Well done to everyone and I look forward to all we manage to achieve in 2023. I look forward to seeing a lot of you over the coming month at District events and tower practices.
If you have something you want to achieve this year let me know.
Happy New Year to everyone!
