Romsey Abbey Bell Ringers are holding a Bells Against Cancer fundraising morning on Saturday 20th July to raise money for Cancer Research.
In summer 2023, the Romsey Abbey Bell Ringers lost a loyal member, Joy Scanlan, to cancer and several others have been affected by this widespread and fearful disease. On Saturday July 20th we are putting on a ringing event – a 2 hour ‘concert’ – to remember Joy, but also to draw local people’s attention to why the bells are ringing on this morning and to invite donations to Cancer Research UK. Display boards will be outside the Abbey, manned by our team, giving information on ringing and the ringing methods.
We would be greatly pleased if other towers could join us by doing a similar session around this date. Most churches across the country with bells and ringers will have experienced the impact that cancer can have. As ringers we are very innovative at raising money for bell maintenance and augmentations, yet it is very rare to see a footnote to quarter peals or other ringing that is dedicated to help charities.
Donations to Cancer Research UK can be made using the QR code on the poster which will direct prospective donors to the Abbey account or there will be cash collection inside the Abbey on the day. All donations received will be passed onto Cancer Research UK.
