Visiting Whitwell

This church stands on a junction so is very easy to find. Parking is only available on the surrounding roads, but is not usually a problem for visitors.

Whitwell is a small village some 5 miles from Ventnor. Whitwell’s small size has led it to become a very close-knit community with a range of amenities including a garage, the 700-year-old church, the oldest pub on the island, dating back from the 15th century and a post office, which was recently re-located to a new premises inside the church bell tower.

A trout farm is located towards Nettlecombe, with three lakes covering 1.5 acres (0.61 ha). The waters are well stocked with carp, roach and tench.

This ground-floor ring of 6 bells is found to the left of the church door as you enter the building.

The White Horse pub is just a short walk away for food and drink if you decide to use this as your lunch stop.
