Method ringing competition – A touch of 120 changes in any doubles or minor method.
Rounds and/or call changes competition – The test piece will be five minutes of rounds, and may include call-changes if wanted but this is not compulsory.

The full rules can be downloaded here and are below. The aim is to promote good striking and also encourage ringers from towers from across the District to meet together socially. We particularly want to encourage less experienced teams to participate in the rounds and/or call changes competition. Teams will be expected to enter into the spirit of the competition and ring call changes or enter the method ringing competition if they are able to do so. Towers who share ringers may enter a combined team. The draw will take place in advance, so that those bands ringing for weddings may arrive later.

Winchester District Striking Competitions 2025

The competitions, on six bells for method ringing and for novice teams, will take place on Saturday 10th May 2025, in conjunction with the Quarterly District Meeting. Competition ringing will start at 2.30pm and the draw will take place in advance, so that those bands that are ringing for weddings may arrive later.
The aim of the competitions is to promote good striking and also encourage ringers from towers from across the District to meet together socially. We particularly want to encourage less experienced teams to participate in the rounds and/or call changes competition and have amended the rules to make this easier for them to enter.

PRACTICE
Each team will be allowed five minutes’ practice time. They should then ring two whole pulls on the treble to signal to the judge(s) and those listening that the test piece is about to commence.

METHOD RINGING COMPETITION
A touch of 120 changes in any doubles or minor method preceded by up to a minute of rounds. Judging will commence as soon as the bells go into changes. At the end of the touch the band should ring five whole pulls of rounds and then stand, all of which will be judged.

ROUNDS AND/OR CALL CHANGES COMPETITION
The test piece will be five and half minutes in duration. Teams will ring rounds, and may include call-changes if they wish, but this is not compulsory. The first minute of rounds will not be marked, although if the team rings call changes, marking will commence as soon as the first change is rung.

TEAMS
Teams must comprise members of a band who regularly ring together. Teams will be
expected to enter into the spirit of the competition and ring call changes or enter the
method ringing competition if they are able to do so. Bands may enter more than one team if they have sufficient ringers, and so long as at least four ringers are not common to both teams. Towers who share ringers may enter a combined team. Any team may include one ringer from outside the band. However, no ringer may ring for more than two teams.

ENTERING THE COMPETITION
Please submit your entry to Micki Nadal, District Secretary, by Sunday 4th May, after which the draw will take place.

Towers will be notified afterwards of the approximate time for their test piece.
